Just one minute away from St. Stephen's Cathedral, Bauernmarkt offers one fashion shop after the next. If you'd like to start your shopping tour in the luxury category, then drop by the glittering world of German designer Philipp Plein. Not particularly expensive fashions, but no less stylish, are on offer at Mondial. American Vintage and Plein Sud are examples of the shop's trendy lines. On the corner of Bauernmarkt/Brandstätte, Girbaud offers French fashion design for women and men.
After passing Jil Sander (at Winnie Greger), it's on to the next stop: those who love avant-garde fashion have come to just the right place at Firis. Dries van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester are the anchors here, alongside a steady stream of young designers.
Opposite, artup Austrian Design represents an extraordinary mix of fashion, accessories, living design and souvenirs for people who appreciate one-offs and limited editions. A couple of steps further on, Inked has opened a jeans paradise for women. On 140 square meters, the shop mostly offers US designer denims in a wide variety of cuts and washes. The hip jeans brand, "J Brand", is also available here.
Around the corner, on Landskrongasse, there are two shops for fashion lovers who would rather not dig too deep into their pockets. The concept store, Sterngasse 4, has opened an outlet store here called Magazin - with fashion ranging from Alberta Ferretti to Zac Posen at discounted prices. At Bocca Lupo, the focus is entirely on Vintage. It's a good place for a rummage. Those who take the time to look will discover real finds here from luxury houses such as Chanel, Gucci and Hermès.
Boutique Weiss is at home just opposite. The selection of women's and men's fashions has always been special here, the shop has been enlarged and now offers relaxed shopping pleasure. Lovers of purist fashion should also take a turn left onto Wildpretmarkt: Emis offers Japanese fashion by Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons and Issey Miyake.
