A time table, a description of a typical day in Haydn’s life (written by his valet and assistant Johann Elssler), and an interactive presentation illustrate his life – from the little farmhouse to the royal court.
Additional topics include the relationship between Haydn and his employer Prince Esterházy and Haydn’s life in London. One of the last exhibits: Haydn’s last composition sketch . Documents about his marriage, his honorary citizenship, and portraits of his pupils also contribute in shedding light on the life of the composer. Also present: a replica of his parrot , which could say “Papa Haydn” and could sing the first bars of the Emperor’s Hymn.
In 2009, in addition original autographs, prints and handwritings are presented. Audio guides are supplied free of charge.
