The Music Film Festival on City Hall Square is one of the most enticing offers in Vienna during the summer. After a culinary foray through top international cuisine, you can enjoy music films from opera and ballet to jazz and classical on the giant open-air screen.
Highlights in 2014 are the 300th birthday of Christoph Willibald Gluck and the 150th birthday of Richard Strauss. In addition to the international stars of classical music, such as Anna Netrebko, Nina Stemme, Jonas Kaufmann, Bejun Mehta, Regula Mühlemann and Magdalena Kožená, classical ballet from the world’s greatest opera houses as well as contemporary dance will be shown.
There are a number of special evenings in memory of Claudio Abbado and Paco de Lucia. And pop fans can look forward to concert films of Falco, Glen Hansard and Eric Clapton. The program for the very youngest guests includes Walt Disney’s magical Fantasia.
This year, too, the Jazzfrühschoppen will be held on the Sunday from 12.00 noon to 2.00 pm. Breakfast tastes especially good when accompanied by live music performed by young musicians.
