The Vienna State Ballet presents superb dance performances at over 80 presentations from September 2012 to June 2013. The ensemble sets sail for new heights under the direction of Manuel Legris, a former Danseur Etoile of the ballet of the Paris Opera.
During the 2012/13 season, Vienna's top dancers present no fewer than 14 different ballets. The Vienna State Ballet brings Nureyev's "The Nutcracker" and the multi-part ballet evening "Tanzperspektiven" to the Vienna State Opera as premieres. Also to be shown at the Volksoper Wien are two new productions, namely Stephan Thoss' "Blaubarts Geheimnis" and the multi-part evening "Kreation und Tradition". There is also Jorma Elo's "A Summer Night's Dream" - a work that has already celebrated great success at the State Opera.
As far as the classics are concerned, the Vienna State Ballet presents the State Opera audience with the revival of Kenneth MacMillan's "Manon" as well as John Cranko's "Romeo and Juliet", Pierre Lacotte's "La Sylphide" and Rudolf Nureyev's "Don Quixote". The ballet evenings "Balanchine | Neumeier | Robbins" and "Meisterwerke des 20. Jahrhunderts" complement the repertoire. This season also ends with a "Nureyev Gala".
Once again on the program at the Volksoper Wien are the successful repertoire piece "Carmina Burana" and the popular family ballet "Max und Moritz".
