Musical and Dance

The Viennese houses that put on musicals, such as the Theater an der Wien, Raimund Theater, Ronacher and Volksoper, provide many unforgettable evenings. Modern dance is offered at such venues as the TanzQuartier at MuseumsQuartier, and ballet can be enjoyed in the Vienna State Opera and the Volksoper. Here is a selection:

“Rudolf – Affaire Mayerling”

This new historical musical tells the tragic tale of the life of Crown Prince Rudolf and his love of Mary Vetsera. The show is in German but is still a great night out even if you don’t speak the language — the music and acting tell the story. more

“Looking for Josephine”

This energetically charming musical revue, a tribute to Josephine Baker, will be staged at the Ronacher from June 6–27. more

“John Malkovich is Jack Unterweger: The Infernal Comedy”

The Ronacher will be the scene of an unconventional musical theater project from July 1–5 when Hollywood star John Malkovich reads the murderer’s fictitious autobiography (in English) in a performance that also features a soprano and a Baroque orchestra. more

ImPulsTanz 2009

From 16 July to 16 August, ImPuls Tanz, Europe’s biggest festival of contemporary dance, once again turns Vienna into the hub of the international dance elite. The programme is top-quality and those hungry for movement are offered over 200 workshops. more
