TV Spot: Swing into Spring

Vienna Boys' Choir

They have an enthusiastic following all over the world. They are often called “the youngest Viennese ambassadors.” And they make music together with such world-class musicians as Pierre Boulez, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Zubin Mehta: the Vienna Boys’ Choir.

Vienna Boys' Choir

The choir was founded half a millennium ago , when Emperor I laid the foundation stone for the Imperial Court Chapel – and thus, also for the Vienna Boys’ Choir – in 1498. Until 1918, the Hofmusikkapelle (Court Orchestra) performed exclusively for the court, during masses and private festivities and on state occasions.

Today the Hofmusikkapelle consists exclusively of a chorus of the Vienna Boys' Choir as well as of members of the Vienna State Opera Chorus and Orchestra . They can be heard every Sunday at High Mass at the Imperial Chapel...

Today, there are about 100 Vienna Choir Boys between the ages of ten and fourteen; the group performs 300 concerts annually in four concert choirs before almost half a million spectators all over the world.

They can also be heard at the Vienna State Opera, at the Salzburg Festival, and at their own festive concerts – with a repertoire ranging from the Middle Ages to the Present Day .
