International and domestic artists alike are on the jam-packed programme - and on 19 different stages from Jazzclub Porgy & Bess to the Filmcasino. Up to three acts per day will play from 20 February to 22 March. Over 40 concerts reflect the full stylistic range of the accordion between tradition and (lots of) innovation.
The opening includes Lorin Sklamberg (lead singer of New York band Kleszmatics) and Irish folk singer Susan McKeown ; the young Austrian accordion wonder Paul Schuberth also presses the keys. The end of the Accordion Festival will be acoustically sweetened by Walther Soyka and Karl Stirner as well as Ernst Molden & Band with guest Willi Resetarits, and elsewhere by Dobrek Bistro.
New for this year is the "G ü rtel Late Night Tour": Concerts in the heart of the young music mile, which are held in the venues of the City Rail Arches, from the Chelsea to the Rhiz. Things get started at 11.00 pm, because the music and the accordion never sleep...
Other mainstays on the programme are the Silent Movie Matinee and the Magic Afternoon for children.
