A classic hiking path is the eleven-kilometer-long City Hiking Path No. 1 . It starts at the terminus of the D streetcar line in Vienna’s Heurigen village Nussdorf; it is moderately steep, has a beautiful view of the city, the Vienna Woods, and the Danube, and it leads through vineyards and woods to the Stefaniewarte on Kahlenberg (May – Oct.: Sat 12 noon -- 6:00 pm, Sun, pub hols 9:00 am – 6:00 pm).
After a detour to the Josefinenhütte , in about three and a half to four hours you easily reach your departure point via the slightly inclined crest of the Nussberg . By the way: at the Kahlenberg restaurant as well as at the Heurigens in Wildgrubgasse, the Kahlenberger Strasse, and Nussdorf, you may want to combine your hiking experience with culinary delights.
Trails to the wine are offered to you on the edge of the city by the hiking trails on the Bisamberg . One of these routes is the famous City Hiking Trail No. 5. Stroll through old cellar alleys, wander through vineyards and oak woods, experience interesting and surprising things about the varied history of the area on "educational paths". You may even discover one of the rare species of orchid here. You set the duration of your excursion for yourself. Your "Wanderbegleiter" hiking guide can help you with this. Hiking guides are available for free at the departure point for your tour in the Heuriger village of Stammersdorf (guides available at the bus stop).
The Rundumadum-Wanderweg (Roundabout Hiking Path), which opened in 2005, surrounds the city in 24 easy stages. The start and end points are easily reached by public transportation. On the way, there are numerous inns for rest and relaxation.
If you get a confirmation on five stamping points , establishing that you really went all the way around, you receive a special hiking pin !
