Vienna's water tower Favoriten

Experience the world of water

A water adventure world in the Favoriten district of Vienna offers numerous attractions based on the cool wet stuff.

The water adventure world in Vienna's Favoriten district covers 15,000 square meters and was constructed around a historic water tower and over its subterranean reservoirs. It offers fun, games and recreation, as well as information on this vitally important element. A water adventure path shows how the city of Vienna is supplied with drinking water: two spring-water pipes bring the refreshing wet stuff from the mountains around 330 kilometers away directly to Vienna, without a single pump involved. The landscaped site, which is planted with trees, was designed to include waterfalls, ponds, streams and bridges. There are also play stations on the topic of water and, of course, drinking fountains. Children can experiment with water in special areas, while an outsized shower with its veil of water invites visitors to cool off on hot days.

The historic water tower, around which the new water adventure world was created, is an imposing structure from the age of industrial historicism. It was built in 1898/99 and supplied drinking water to higher districts before the spring-water pipes were laid. The building, with its attractive colored roof tiles, was renovated in the 1990s and is available for exhibitions and other cultural events.
