The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the ten largest cultural quarters in the world. Located at the border of the old city in the former imperial stables, it combines institutions of different art fields, restaurants, cafés and shops in an area of over 640,000 square feet in a post-modern ambiance, a combination of baroque buildings and modern architecture.
The MQ offers an ambiance that fits the urban lifestyle of its visitors: retaining the old, experiencing the new – and enjoying both of them together. Following this principle, a colorful and varied scene developed amid the setting of eminent museums and collections:
After viewing some Schiele paintings, one could stop at
Café Leopold
(daily 10:00 am – 2:00 am, Tue 4:00 pm – 2:00 am), which offers its own DJ Line on some evenings. At
Café.Restaurant HALLE
(daily 10:00 am – 2:00 am) one can enjoy the interior decoration of the Viennese designers Eichinger oder Knechtl. The
mumokka
(daily 10:00 am – 1:00 am) welcomes visitors of the MUMOK, the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Worth viewing is also the design of Milo (Mon - Fri 9:00 am - midnight, Sat 10:00 am - midnight, Sun 10:00 am – 6:00 pm) by Anne Lacaton und Jean-Philippe Vassal at the Architecture Center. Located right next to a bookstore, the Kantine (Mon – Wed 10:00 am – midnight, Thu – Sat 10:00 am – 2:00 am, Sun and public holidays 10:00 am – 10:00 pm) is a nice place to browse through the books you have just bought. And according to its own statements, the health-food coffee bar Unter'm Hollerbusch (Mon - Fri 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, Sat 9:00 am – 6:00 pm) seeks the “artistic value of biological products.”
