The old blacksmith's shop of master smith Schmirler was still in operation as late as 1974; he donated the beautiful lantern which is now mounted on a corner across the street, to the city. The workshop is open to the public. The building also houses an art gallery and the Literarische Quartier (Literary Quarters), a meeting place for readings and lectures.
