The maze at Schönbrunn

In the old days, the Imperial family walked through these winding hedges. Today, the Maze at Schönbrunn provides fun for everybody. If you look, you can find the symbols of all twelve signs of the zodiac. And at last, you can watch everybody else get lost from a special platform.

Schönbrunn - maze

The Maze was started between 1698 and 1740. It originally consisted of four different parts with a central, raised pavilion, from which one could overlook the labyrinth. During the nineteenth century, the Maze was cut back, until the last hedge was razed in 1892. Through the use of historic models, the new Maze was created in the fall of 1998 with a total area of 18,640 square feet.
