This year's Vienna Pride runs from 11 to 16 June, 2013, under the motto "United in Pride". The "Pride Village" will be constructed on Heldenplatz for the first time: a tent city in the middle of town, offering a mix of culture, show, food and information. Many of the city's gay and lesbian restaurants will provide food and drink. From 11.00 am to 10.00 pm, visitors in the raised sand beach can relax on loungers, enjoy a drink, learn about the Viennese community and dance to party music.
The highlight of Vienna Pride is the Rainbow Parade on Saturday, 15 June, 2013. On trailers, motorbikes, in carriages or on foot: gays, lesbians, drag queens, leather boys, transgenders and many more celebrate themselves in the Rainbow Parade and send out a signal against discrimination. Vienna's Ringstrasse will therefore be closed to traffic. The Rainbow Parade departs Heldenplatz at 2.00 pm against the flow of traffic (!) around the entire ring (start and end: Heldenplatz). More than 100,000 visitors are expected.
Before and after the parade, the Pride Village is the perfect place to get in the mood or to round off this great day. The Pride Celebration, the traditional closing event of the Rainbow Parade, also takes place on Heldenplatz this year. From 6.00 pm, there are live shows on the stage in front of the Prince Eugene memorial (1), including the cover show "Divas of Pop" and dragqueens.dk. DJs Pure and Viel Lieb provide hot beats.
Those who want to continue partying afterward will also be superbly looked after: numerous parties at different locations will turn night into day from Saturday to Sunday. If anyone still hasn't had enough, they can return to the Pride Village on Heldenplatz for the Morning Pint from 11.00 am.
Tip: Tours on the history of homosexuality will be held again during Pride Week 2013 at the University of Vienna. The rainbow flag will be hoisted on the main building of the University of Vienna on Tuesday, 11 June. Guided tours take place from 12 to 15 June, specifically: 12 June (11.30 am in German and 1.00 pm in German with sign language), 14 June (4.30 pm in English and 8.00 pm in German) and 15 June (11.00 am in German).
