It's only a few steps from the Imperial Palace to the Loos House, designed by Adolf Loos, an architect who characterized the style of modernity. This house is an excellent match for the collections by the Italian fashion designer Valentino, who has opened his exclusive Viennese boutique here. The Kohlmarkt starts directly behind it. Where numerous purveyors to the imperial and royal court once had their establishments, the shops of the great luxury brands are now clustered. At the very beginning of the pedestrian zone is a branch of the noble Swiss watch and jewelry company Chopard.
Around the center of the Kohlmarkt, the density of luxury and elegance reaches another pinnacle in a noble Palais. Here one can find the Milano-based fashion house Dolce & Gabbana, Diesel is in attendance with its high fashion couture, while Tiffany & Co. can look back on a long tradition: The legendary American jeweler was a purveyor to the imperial and royal court - long before the opening of the Viennese store.
Just a few steps towards the city centre is where Ferragamo displays fine Italian shoes and accessories, Chanel offers French exclusivity, and Akris presents fashion from Switzerland, feminine and discreet. Next comes a classic British touch provided by Burberry, along with the elegant Italian fashion design by Gucci and Armani.
The Cartier boutique with its exquisite watches and luxurious jewelry forms the link between the Kohlmarkt and Graben. In this also very exclusive, car-free shopping street, Hermès has set up its Viennese flagship store. The Jil Sander shop can be found on Kärnter Strasse - another part of the inner-city pedestrian area.
But very exclusive labels can also be found in some of the nearby side alleys: Prada is on Weihburggasse, Versace is located in the Trattnerhof, Gianfranco Ferre can be found on Maysedergasse and Missoni on Rauhensteingasse. The cult label Agent Provocateur from London presents its daring, extravagant designer lingerie on Tuchlauben, the extension of the Kohlmarkt.
There is glitz and glamour to be had in the store of German luxury designer Philipp Plein on Bauernmarkt. He is famous for his leather jackets, skull and tattoo motifs and crystal-decorated shirts, jeans and jackets. The furniture in the shop are from the Home Collection by Philipp Plein. A metre-tall skull installation made from 50,000 Swarovski crystals is worth a look. Right around the corner, there are unusual and opulent jewels from the British jewelry designer Stephen Webster available for purchase.
