Flea market at the Naschmarkt
The flea market at the Vienna Naschmarkt is a true institution and a treasure trove for everyone who loves flea markets, collects antiques, hunts for bargains or is looking for an unusual gift. But the flea market is also a paradise for those who simply enjoy the atmosphere and like to watch the bustling activities. For many people – whether they’re visiting or they live in Vienna – this is a fixture on Saturday mornings.
Freihausviertel - Breakfast Club
The adjacent Freihausviertel is a haven of creativity. Strolling through this lively and exciting Viennese district, you can discover many hip shops, modern galleries and, above all, a good mix of established and new trendy restaurants. Stop by the Breakfast Club and treat yourself to a good breakfast – the menu features a great variety of options. Enjoy it while listening to cool sounds from the owner’s record collection.
Belvedere Palace Park and Botanical Garden
The Belvedere is not only a magnificent Baroque residence, it also houses one of Austria's most valuable art collections – with key works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The Baroque Park is one of the most beautiful in the world and the city views from the Upper Belvedere are legendary. Walking through the adjacent botanical garden of the University of Vienna in the Belvedere Garden with its thousands of native and exotic plants, the many old trees and meadows, it’s easy to forget that you are in the center of a large city.
Belvedere 21
Originally designed as the Austria Pavilion for the 1958 World’s Fair, the Belvedere 21 is now one of the coolest museums in Vienna. It’s also a masterpiece of Austrian architecture – even in terms of sustainability: The Austrian architect Karl Schwanzer designed the pavilion so it could be easily dismantled and rebuilt. Today, Belvedere 21 is a platform for contemporary art in Vienna.
Ankerbrotfabrik
Bread was baked here up until the turn of the millennium. Nowadays, contemporary art is the focal point of the former Brotfabrik in Vienna Favoriten. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, studios, galleries and showrooms, shops and restaurants have set themselves up around the two mighty inner courtyards of the brick buildings since 2009. There is much to discover – something is always happening here.
Metro Kinokulturhaus
How about finishing a wonderful day with a visit to the movies? The charm of the Metro Kinokulturhaus is particularly enchanting. The heart is a historic, heritage listed cinema auditorium dating to 1893, which was converted into a theater in 1924. With its wood paneling and red interior, it ranks among the most beautiful cinemas in Vienna nowadays. A perfect ending for your day!
