Thousands of runners at the starting shot

Wings for Life World Run Vienna

The Wings for Life World Run 2020 was cancelled.

At exactly 1.00 pm on 3 May 2020, the starting pistol be fired for the runners in Vienna and the race will also start simultaneously right around the world. After 30 minutes, the catcher cars - cars specially equipped for the run - will follow the runners at a pre-set speed. As long as the runners stay ahead of the catcher car, they'll stay in the race. If they're overtaken, the personal finish line is reached and the race is over. The journey back to City Hall Square should be made on public transport – the start numbers and the registration confirmation are valid all day as a ticket for the Wiener Linien.

Anyone who is at least 16 years of age can participate in the race. Wheelchair users can also take part in Vienna - the only requirement is that they use everyday wheelchairs. Small children in strollers can also be brought along, as long as they start at the back of the last starting block.

One team, one goal – running in a team is even better, with the idea that the bigger the running group, the greater the fun – and there's no limit on the size of the team.

The route

Downtown Vienna offers a unique backdrop for the Wings for Life World Run. The starting shot is fired on Vienna's City Hall Square. From Ringstrasse boulevard, the route leads past the University and Schwedenplatz to the Vienna State Opera. From there, it continues along Linke Wienzeile and the Gürtel right through several districts. Past the Kunsthistorisches and Naturhistorisches Museums, the Imperial Palace, Parliament and the Burgtheater, the runners cross the starting line again before returning to Schwedenplatz and heading off towards the Prater. The route leads over the Reichsbrücke to Danube Island and on towards Tulln in Lower Austria. All spectators and companions can watch the whole event live on a large video wall on City Hall Square.
