Viennese fashion stores with a difference

Avant-garde fashionistas from Vienna and further afield have been seeking out Myung Il Saba-Song in the second district for years. The cool concept store Song,on Praterstrasse, brings together cult labels such as Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Balenciaga Edition, and AF Vandevorst, as well as fashion by selected Austrian designers. The store also carries selected fragrance and interior labels, while the adjacent Galerie SongSong hosts art exhibitions.

Eigensinnig Wien is the name of a concept store on Sankt-Ulrichs-Platz, located in a charming cobbled square in the seventh district. The owners Toni Woldrich and Stefanie Hofer approach fashion as wearable art for creative minds, unconventional thinkers and visionaries. The collections of designers such as Hannibal, Daniel Andresen, Biek Verstappen as well as their own label Eigensinnig Wien are impressively displayed under the pretty, historic vaulted ceilings. There is also a view of goings-on inside the tailor’s workshop. The focus of the labels are on individual handcraftsmanship.

In a pair of locations, in the first and fourth districts, Wolfensson carries more than 60 international fashion labels for men and women, all of which are hallmarked by high-quality workmanship and avant garde sophistication. Highlights include Boris Bidjan Saberi from Barcelona, Julius_7 from Tokyo and A1923 Augusta from Italy. A number of the products on offer in these understated boutiques are produced in small studios.
