Hollywood in Vienna
Masterpieces of film music, performed by first-class musicians and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart – that's "Hollywood in Vienna 2019" at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
A Night at the Oscars
On October 19, 2019, a glamorous journey through time takes the audience across eight decades of film music and rolls out the red carpet for great Oscar-winning compositions. After a sparkling opening with Hooray for Hollywood, legendary film songs from The Wizard of Oz and orchestral music from cult films such as Casablanca, Jaws, Out of Africa and Schindler's List with current Oscar winners such as Shape of Water and Black Panther combine to create a concert event filled with the magic of Hollywood.
Max Steiner Award for Gabriel Yared
Max Steiner was a Viennese pioneer of film music. The "Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award" named after him will be awarded in 2019 to Oscar and Golden Globe winner Gabriel Yared. The sensual and emotional imagery of the film composer is legendary. With his elegant, melodious and masterfully orchestrated film scores for The English Patient, City of Angels, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, Betty Blue and The Lives of Others, Yared is one the truly great masters of his trade. He is celebrating his 70th birthday this year.
At the prize-giving ceremony, Gabriel Yared will perform his compositions to the Viennese audience as a pianist – a rare honor.
TV broadcast: The concert will be recorded for TV and radio, and broadcast internationally in over 35 countries. This will enable hundreds of thousands of music fans around the world to also see the gala.
