St. Stephen's Cathedral, inside-view

Easter concert in St. Stephen's Cathedral

The Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) is considered the founder of opera. But he also wrote sacral music, such as the Selva morale e spirituale (1641). The conductor of San Marco also tried new approaches with this collection of spiritual works. He tried to merge the rhythms of folk music with psalms from the Old Testament.

The Bach Consort Wien, led by Rubén Dubrovsky, is one of the most important Baroque ensembles in Austria. It focuses on the intensive dialog with the work of the name-giver Johann Sebastian Bach. The ensemble also stands for the rediscovery of other important Baroque works, such as those by Johann Josef Fux or Francesco Bartolomeo Conti.

For an authentic sound experience, historic instruments such as the theorbe or the zink are used for the Easter concert in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. The vocal cast of singing soloists includes soprano, bass, tenor and countertenor.

The Easter concert takes place on Wednesday, 16 April in the evening and can then be watched in a recording on Easter Day during the broadcast "Von Dom zu Dom" on ORF2 (9.30 - 10.30 am Central European Summer Time).
