Aida: open-air in the stadium
Quality and mega event - that's what makes up this special evening of opera. Where thousands of football fans normally celebrate, "Aida. The Stadium World Tour" will make a stop in Vienna. The legendary tenor Plácido Domingo will realize his fondest wish on his 50th anniversary in the business when he stages Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece Aida, first performed in Cairo in 1871 to mark the opening of the Suez Canal, as a stadium mega event. In doing so, Domingo aims to reach as many people as possible and get them excited about opera - as he previously did extremely successfully with his "Three Tenors" project in the 1990s.
With Domingo's unique large-scale production of Aida, Ancient Egypt and its world of the Pharaohs makes its entrance into the sports arena. What's more, the maestro himself will be conducting in Vienna. The "Triumphal March" and the aria "Celeste Aida" from this masterpiece by Verdi are by far the best-known pieces of the classical repertoire.
Like in a movie theater
The spectacle is gigantic: Ninety trucks will transport the sets and equipment between the venues – more than rock giants such as the Rolling Stones or U2 hit the road with. The highlight of the stage set are the powerful integrated LED screens. More than 800 performers will appear in front of this monumental backdrop: 90 orchestral musicians, 150 choristers, 85 ballet dancers and over 500 extras. Horses and chariots will create an Ancient Egyptian world of adventure, as impressive as a movie blockbuster.
