Rock in Vienna
The tried and tested festival site of Danube Island becomes a destination for tens of thousands of rock fans over the long Pentecost weekend, from Friday, 2 June to Monday, 5 June. Exciting acts of our time play on a huge open-air stage.
Partying from rock'n'roll to electro-pop
The headliners on the Friday are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – an American hip-hop duo with superstar status. Hip-hop is also delivered by House of Pain: DJ Lethal, Dannyboy and Erik Schrody aka Everlast come to celebrate a quarter century of "Jump Around". The Viennese rapper Appletree, under contract with rap legend Samy Deluxe, can also be experienced.
The gigantic live show of the rock band Kings of Leon is the highlight on the Saturday. Silbermond presents entirely profound pop, Großstadtgeflüster Berlin-style electro-pop. The Donots have been around as a band for 22 years and know how to get the crowd in a party mood with a full-on dose of rock'n'roll.
On the Sunday, Deichkind really get the party-makers buzzing. The biggest medieval rock band is back again: In Extremo had to finish early at last year's Rock in Vienna because of a storm warning, but is sure to play a full set this time round. Schmutzki proves with lots of energy and playfulness that punk is not dead!
Monday is a public holiday - and Danube Island will also be rocking. The main act is Die Toten Hosen. The five band members from Düsseldorf have a long friendship with Vienna, and so Campino and Co. will be there on Danube Island for the band's 35th anniversary. Further formations offer outstanding live performances: Beatsteaks brings the best in punk rock, the German hit Marteria brings rap. The style of the American band Clutch is not so easy to classify, although it typically includes the voice of singer Neil Fallonso and the use of a Hammond organ and mouth harmonica.
After each day of the festival, high-spirited aftershow parties continue at several establishments across Vienna.
