The present-day Rabenhof Theater, situated in the Rabenhof housing complex built between 1925 and 1928, was originally designed as a meeting hall for workers. In the 1930s, it was converted into a movie theater. It has been a theater since 1990. Initially operated by the venerable Theater in der Josefstadt, it is now an independent venue offering a broad repertoire,
ranging from literary evenings to children's theater, drama, musicals and Baroque opera. The performance schedule includes international literature stars as well as the greats of the Austrian theater, cabaret and film scene. An important element is contemporary political satire.
New from season 2016/17: The Rabenhof Theater shows selected highlights from the world's biggest and best-known theater festival, the EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE, exclusively in the series fringe@rabenhof.
