At the Summer Night Concert, the Vienna Philharmonic play open-air in the park of Schönbrunn Palace and to the familiar high standard. And have done so year after year since 2004. The open-air concert for classical music is one of the main highlights of the philharmonic year. Just like the famous New Year's Concert, with which the orchestra sends musical greetings to the world on the first day of each year.

A musical feast with Nelsons and Davidsen

Maestro Andris Nelsons will wield the baton at the 2024 Summer Night Concert. The Latvian is both the Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as the Gewandhauskapellmeister (conductor) of the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester. He is one of the most acclaimed and innovative conductors on the international music scene.

The soloist will be the Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen, who is equally at home in opera and Lieder.

Music from Smetana to Wagner

The focus of this year’s concert program is on popular works from the 19th and 20th centuries from Europe’s rich musical heritage. Bedřich Smetana will be honored with three of his works to mark his 200th birthday.

Lise Davidsen will sing two arias, one from Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser and one from Giuseppe Verdi’s La forza del destino.
