Haydn in Love

Joseph Haydn:
Symphony in E-flat major, Hob. I:91
Dov'è l'amato bene? … Del mio core. Recitative and cavatina of Euridice from the opera “L’anima del filosofo ossia Orfeo ed Euridice", Hob. XXVIII:13
Che fu mai quel ch'io vidi! ... Fra un dolce deliro. Recitative and aria of Silvia from the opera “L’isola disabitata", Hob. XXVIII:7
Come il vapor s’accende. Aria of Silvia from the opera “L’isola disabitata", Hob. XXVIII:7
Ah, non ferir: t’arresta. Aria of Armida from the opera of the same name, Hob. XXVIII:12 Symphony in C major, Hob. I:97

In his major long-term project “Haydn 2032", Giovanni Antonini opens the next chapter—a particularly intriguing one, at that: “Haydn in Love” explores the love stories of Joseph Haydn and the women who inspired him. In London in the 1790s—far removed from his earlier, sedentary life—Haydn suddenly found himself at the center of cultural life and experienced a period of artistic and personal flourishing. Letters to his ladies-in-waiting bear witness to deep affection—and are reflected in symphonies and arias full of warmth, drama, and exuberant joie de vivre.
