Freshly roasted!
There is a small coffee roast house in the immediate vicinity of Naschmarkt. The Alt Wien Kaffee greets guests with the intense aroma of a coffee blend that is roasted daily in small 12-kilogram batches. After each handpicked batch is prepared, the results can be tasted at the bar. The Alt Wien Kaffee serves 14 types of coffee, including several organic and fair trade varieties. Visitors can also watch how the aromatic coffee that makes their mélange is prepared at popular café The Roast.
The Wiener Rösthaus is a small roast house offering coffee of high quality and a particularly pretty setting reminiscent of a store selling colonial goods. Drink coffee straight from the roast house in a cozy atmosphere and receive expert advice about which method of preparation best suits which coffee. The owners know their suppliers in person and sell only top-quality coffee made 100 percent from arabica beans. There are also tastings and workshops offered. Gegenbauer roasts the coffee in a small store on Naschmarkt. The range comprises three different roastings of high-quality coffee beans, including the Naschmarkt roasting named after the location.
Naber, a Viennese family business now in its fourth generation, has been roasting coffee since 1908. The family's roasting house in the 21st district uses only the finest highland Arabica beans. The finished products include four types of espresso, organic coffees and special mixtures made according to customers' wishes. Apart from the roast house, Naber also runs the NBR-Espresso in a pretty 1950s design, where people can buy coffee and enjoy it on the spot.
The traditional café Hawelka is a relatively recent newcomer to the roasting business. Roasting has been done in the 23rd district for a number of years. Now, the coffee is finally also available in the company's own city center shop with modern design and coffee bar. And, of course, the coffee continues to be served in the legendary Café Hawelka located diagonally opposite.
Jonas Reindl Coffee Roasters are also really modern. The coffee from the company's own micro-roasting facility can also be enjoyed on the spot in the purist coffee house ambience in the trendy 7th district.
Mobile coffee
What's more, melange and co. are not only drunk in Vienna's coffee houses. The Espressomobil also serves coffee and Gugelhupf in parks and other public places. To achieve this, a Vespa car was converted into a mobile coffee dispenser with a retro look. The Espressomobil can be found almost daily (except in rain, snow and sub-zero temperatures) at numerous locations in Vienna - see website: www.espressomobil.at
