Organic restaurants

An increasing number of consumers value sustainability, ethics, quality and indulgence in equal measures when it comes to food. This is why Vienna also has a restaurant scene that uses products derived from ecologically correct agriculture and humane animal keeping.

Guilt-free indulgence

In Vienna, organic and health food stores can be found particularly in the young and creative districts, as well as at Vienna's markets. The spectrum of organic restaurants is diverse and colorful. Tewa offers organic cuisine with international influences at the Naschmarkt and, as of recently, also at the Karmelitermarkt.

In the light, friendly ambience of the Health Kitchen, low-carb cuisine is cooked with regional and mostly organic ingredients. This is how good healthy food can taste: Salads with that something extra, soups and stews are on the menu, as are rice paper rolls – with a range of fillings such as pulled beef or goat's cheese and apple. Another tip is the breakfast.

The high-quality vegetarian dishes at the gourmet restaurant Lebenbauer are mostly organic. For a little snack on the go, Limoni’s offers sandwiches, soups and salads with mainly organic ingredients. This is where the latest harvest from Austria’s farms and gardens is processed.

Bionista offers high-quality organic tacos, wraps and burgers, along with a daily rotation of lunch menus with appetizers of salads or soups. Karma Food offers healthy curries, soups and salads in organic quality - much of it is also vegan. You can also get delicious coffee here.

Certified Restaurants

Of particular note are the restaurants whose organic selections have also been officially certified. At Dreiklang, the cuisine has been organic, wholesome and prepared without genetically modified ingredients since 1991. The menus change weekly and even the electricity is green. Naturkost St. Josef in the 7th district was one of the early pioneers of organic food and has been serving a daily rotation of lunch menus for several years - all organic and vegetarian.

There are also organic in-places: The trendy baker Joseph runs three purist bistros that resemble a canteen in their design and place an emphasis on organic ingredients and a wide variety of bread-based dishes. Of course you can buy the renowned organic, handmade “Joseph” bread here, along with wonderful patisserie and exclusive fine foods. The breakfast is also worth recommending. Joseph am Albertinaplatz also serves antipasti from 5.00 pm.

Mia Via is a new, innovative place for enjoying, relaxing and being healthy. The restaurant offers enjoyable, healthy cuisine with a focus on low-carb and raw food with season ingredients - and all 100 percent organically certified. The menu includes a great breakfast, crisp salads, warming soups, stews and colorful bowls as well as meat dishes. That health is viewed here in holistic terms is evident from the rest of the offering: there is a large selection of beauty and health treatments - from massage to clay packs.

Gustl Kocht, which sees itself as a restaurant for everyone and a particularly child-friendly at that, is also fully certified and puts the emphasis on home cooking. Apart from Austrian dishes, there are also specialties from Poland, Hungary, Romania and Russia on the menu.

Two modern delis are also fully organically certified: Deli Bluem offers great organic and purely plant-based cuisine at two locations. At Bio Deli, there are salads, soups, pasta and stews for a quick meal.
