Tourist information as an architectural hotspot

The style of architecture firm Delugan Meissl Associated Architects (DMAA) is unmistakable: Elegant design, high-quality materials and bags of functionality characterize the new tourist information office on Albertinaplatz. At its heart is a faceted, space-creating brass wall, whose multifunctional nature interprets the variety and diversity of Vienna in material and appearance. At the same time, it serves both as an imposing space-creating element and as a brochure dispenser. The dominant color is gold. The wall is bathed perfectly in the light of 445 LED lamps.

In functional terms, the room is divided into two areas, while suspended light installations serve as orientation systems. A lounge with movable seating invites visitors to stop a while. Four large screens facilitate the playback of videos. Four tablets are available for visitors to browse the website of the Vienna Tourist Board in 13 languages. Free WiFi is available for everyone.

The architecture office DMAA won the competition to design the tourist information center over 5 other entrants. Other works by these architects include the House Ray 1 in Vienna's 5th district, the Festspielhaus at Erl/Tyrol, the new Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and the EYE Film Institute Netherlands in Amsterdam.
