The artists from Gugging are amongst the most prominent representatives of this art movement. August Walla, Oswald Tschirtner, Johann Hauser and Heinrich Reisenbauer shaped the reputation of Gugging art with their extraordinary works, and continue to do so. Gugging is a special place: a combination of a museum and the domain of the artists who live, work and sell their works there in their own gallery.
"Art Brut yesterday and today" is the topic for 2017. museum gugging begins its exhibition year with "jean dubuffet's art brut.! the beginnings of his collection" (from 26 January 2017). This show is dedicated to the origins of Art Burt and shows now famous but also nameless works from the collection of Jean Debuffet, the creator of the term Art Brut. The present of Art Brut is in focus from 19 July 2017: The two Gugging artists Johann Garber and Karl Vondal turn museum gugging into their studio and allow visitors to watch them at work.
