Blind Date with Art
Since it was founded in 1959, the mumok has assembled nearly 10,000 works by some 1,600 artists in its collection. The “55 Dates” exhibition invites visitors to enjoy exceptional encounters with 55 of these works. Instead of providing a classic perspective on art history, these artworks have been chosen to illustrate a multifaceted juxtaposition of mindsets, subjects and artistic media.
The selection of the included artworks encompasses an array of artists, from Paul Klee, Giacomo Balla and Pablo Picasso to Andy Warhol to Maria Lassnig, Anna Artaker, Cosima von Bonin, Günter Brus and VALIE EXPORT. “55 Dates” presents a combination of the well-known and the lesser known and includes artists who have secure positions in the art historical canon and those who are yet to be discovered.
