Supermarket of Art
The Supermarket of Art on Vienna's Mariahilfer Strasse, one of the biggest contemporary art events in Austria, has enjoyed great popularity since 2006. The concept comes from Germany and is incredibly simple: People with an interest in art find a large choice of high-quality art at affordable prices, the artists get the possibility to earn additional income.
This time, around 5,000 works can be marveled at and purchased on site over a period of five months. Ninety artists from 17 countries are guests at the 16th edition of the event. The pallet ranges from watercolors to acrylic and oil paintings to photographic works and small sculptures. Only original works of art are offered. And to give the large selection of artworks a sense of order, each artist has their own booth.
New on board
Young, up-and-coming artists receive an important platform, and re-entrants and career changers are also represented at the Kunstsupermarkt. Some of this year's exhibitors: Rob Perez (under his pseudonym "Deadbeathero", a legend in the field of street art), the trained puppeteer Eva Wassertheurer, who uses all kinds of materials, Norbert Wabnig with his black-and-white nature photographs, and street artist Andrea Kurtz, who presents her relief pictures.
