A dragonfly lands in the MQ
The new viewing terrace in the MuseumsQuartier (MQ) affords one of the most beautiful views of Vienna city center. The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and the Naturhistorisches Museum Vienna lie here at one's feet. Designed by Laurids Ortner, the MQ Libelle is also an architectural highlight. It may not look like a dragonfly, but the shimmering, airiness and lightness could be associated with one. The Austrian artist Eva Schlegel designed the glass façade, which is supplemented by light installations in the shape of a ring by Brigitte Kowanz. The light rings are a sign, visible from afar, that something is happening up here on the roof of the Leopold Museum.
There's something to see here
The MQ Libelle can be accessed free of charge and is intended to be an open place for everyone, just like the MQ. A small kiosk sells refreshments. On the opening days (September 1 to 6), there is a lot of art to see in the MQ main courtyard: a light and sound installation on the façade of the Leopold Museum, during the performance "Libelle Flirr" three trombonists explore the area and form themselves into ever new sound bodies, and in the MQ Artbox Alex Kasses puts the MQ Libelle in a permanent floating state with an installation. Humorous detail on the side: the MQ furniture, the popular outdoor furniture in the courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier, is being given the green color tone "Libelle" (dragonfly) this year.
