How do I get from Vienna International Airport to the city?

City-Airport Train CAT: plies between the airport and Wien Mitte/Landstraße. Travel time: 16 minutes. One way for adults: €11.00 Vienna-Card 
Buses of the Vienna Airport Lines
: ride to the city center (travel time 20 minutes), to the Westbahnhof railway station (travel time 45 minutes) and Vienna-Meidling railway station (travel time 30 minutes) as well as to the Vienna International Centre (travel time 30 minutes) . One way: €8.00 Vienna-Card
Express train S7: ride from the airport via Wien-Mitte/Landstrasse to Floridsdorf. Travel time to Wien Mitte: about  26 minutes, price: €4,40; two tickets of €2,20 each are required; with the Vienna-Card you only need one additional one-way ticket for €2,20.

Is there an advantage card with discounts for visitors?

Yes, the Vienna-Card. This ticket gives you 48 or 72 hours of free travel on all public transport services in Vienna. The Vienna Card also gives you discounts at over 210 partners, such as museums, shops, cafés, etc. Price: €21.90 or €24.90.

Can I buy the Vienna Card advantage card at Vienna International Airport?

The Vienna-Card can be purchased at Vienna International Airport from the tourist information counter in the arrival hall, open daily from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm.

Is the Vienna Card also valid for use on public transport from and to Vienna International Airport?

The Vienna Card gives you discounts for the City-Airport Train CAT and for the airport buses of the Vienna Airport Lines. If you ride express train S7 from and to the airport, you will need to top up the Vienna Card with a one one-way ticket for the price of €2,20, which should be validated before commencing your journey. What tickets are available for children and seniors on Vienna's public transport services?

Half-price tickets for children from 6 to 15 years: €1 in advance and €1.20 on board the tram and bus. Valid for one journey, transfers allowed, but the journey must not be interrupted. This ticket is also valid for the carriage of dogs on Vienna's public transport services.

2-journey senior ticket: €2.80 for women and men from the age of 61. This ticket is good for two journeys on any day.

Children up to 6 years of age always travel for free on Vienna's public transport services.
During the Vienna school holidays as well as on Sunday and public holidays, all children up to 15 years (proof of age required!) ride for free on Vienna's public transport services. This rule also applies to students attending an Austrian school up to the age of 19 years - (student) ID required!

There are no multi-day tickets for children or seniors.

In Vienna, you can book your lodgings at the tourist information office in the city center, Albertinaplatz, corner of Maysedergasse, daily from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm, and at the tourist information counter at Vienna International Airport, arrival hall, daily from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm.

Where can I get a program for Vienna's stages?

Where can I order tickets for Vienna's theaters, opera houses, concert halls, etc.?

The advance sales points are indicated in our event search for all events. The most affordable way is usually to buy the tickets directly from the theaters or from the organizer. Many travel agencies and ticketing agencies also offer tickets for Vienna's stages and events, usually for a surcharge.
Heavily discounted last-minute tickets for the same evening for selected Viennese stages can be obtained at the Jirsa ticketing agency in the tourist information office on Albertinaplatz.

How do I get tickets for the New Year's Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic?

Every year, from 2 to 23 January, you can register on the website of the Vienna Philharmonic for tickets to the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, the New Year's Eve concert and to the preview on 30 December in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. The tickets are randomly drawn from amongst the registrations. Applications are always only possible for the next concert; there are no waiting lists for future concerts.

Where and when can I see the Lipizzaners of the Spanish Riding School?

The "High School" of riding can be experienced in the Riding School in the Imperial Palace during the morning work or at a gala presentation of the Spanish Riding School. Where and when can I experience the Vienna Boys' Choir live?

Every Sunday from mid-September to the end of June, the Vienna Boys' Choir performs Sunday mass in the Hofburg Chapel at 9.15 am. You can get tickets for this directly from the Hofmusikkapelle, tel. +43-1-533 99 27, e-mail: WHMK@chello.at   
On Fridays in May, June, September and October, the Vienna Boys' Choir gives concerts in the Vienna Musikverein, starting at 4.00 pm. You can get tickets from Reisebüro Mondial, tel. +43-1-58 804-173.

Which city tours are offered in Vienna?

Bus tours, accompanied by expert guides, through the city center to Schönbrunn Palace, to wine taverns in Grinzing and many other tours are offered by the companies Cityrama, Redbus Citytours and Vienna Sightseeing Tours.

Hop On  Hop Off buses ply along three routes in the city. Hop on and off where you want. Information on the attractions along the route is available in 12 languages.

Guided walks through the city, which often take peeks behind the façades, are offered on a wide range of topics and on many dates. The walks generally require a minimum of three participants; simply turn up at the relevant meeting point at the time indicated. Advance registration is not required for people traveling on their own. Groups can book each tour individually direct with the guide.

The Vienna Ring Tram is the only tram line in Vienna to travel a complete circuit of the Ringstraße. You also get audiovisual information on the splendid buildings along the boulevard.

Boat tours on the Danube and on the Danube Canal are offered by DDSG-BlueDanube. You can board at the "Vienna City" landing stage on Schwedenplatz, at the Vienna Marina and at the landing stage by the Reichsbrücke.

How much does a tour in a horse-drawn carriage cost and where I can go on one?

Small tour through the Old City, lasts about 20 minutes, price: €55.00 per coach
Large tour through the Old City and a section of the Ringstraße, lasts about 40 minutes, price: €80.00 per coach
Horse-drawn carriage stands in the city center: Stephansplatz, Petersplatz, Albertinaplatz, occasionally Michaelerplatz, Heldenplatz and Burgtheater
Sightseeing tour of Vienna Central Cemetery on Thursdays through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. (coach rank is at Gate 2). Duration: 30 minutes, price: €40 per coach or 60 minutes, price: €70 per coach
Individual rides in a horse-drawn carriage can be booked direct at one of the Viennese horse-drawn carriage companies.

When are the shops open in Vienna?

Shops are usually open Mon - Fri from 9.00 am - 6.30 pm, Sat until 5.00 pm or 6.00 pm; some shopping centers are open until 8.00 or 9.00 pm from Mon-Fri. Shopping is available on Sundays and holidays at the large railway stations, at the airport and in the museum shops. More details on opening times in Vienna

Where can I park my car in Vienna?

You can park your car particularly economically at Vienna's Park & Ride facilities. Parking here costs €3.40 per day. All Park & Ride car parks are located right next to underground stations, so that you can get quickly and comfortably to the city center. Car parks are available in and near the city center for much higher parking fees.

Short-stay parking zones in Vienna are (valid from 1 October 2012):

  • Districts 1 to 9 and 20: Monday to Friday, except public holidays, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., max. stay 2 hours
  • Districts 12 and 14 to 17: Monday to Friday, except public holidays, 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., max. stay 3 hours
  • Special scheme near the Stadthalle: Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., max. stay 2 hours
  • NB: you will need a parking ticket as soon as you park in these zones. For short stops, 15-minute parking tickets are available for free. Inquire at your accommodation provider in advance.
  • Cost for 30 minutes: €1.00

In the remaining districts, you can park your car for free. Please note that specially signed short-stay parking zones and parking bans may apply on individual streets.

Where can I dance the waltz in Vienna?

The best opportunity to dance the waltz is offered by the Viennese Ball Season, which traditionally runs from New Year's Eve to Shrove Tuesday. Some large traditional Viennese balls are also held outside this period. You can find the exact dates of the Viennese balls in our event search.

The Vienna Dance Schools offer visitors dance courses in the Viennese waltz throughout the year.
