Imperial Treasury and Imperial Carriage Museum
The Imperial Treasury in the Wiener Hofburg displays the unique crowns, regalia and other artefacts used to demonstrate imperial power since the middle ages. The House of Habsburg takes centre stage here – after all, for 600 years the family was one of the most powerful ruling dynasties in Europe. Besides the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire, which is over 1,000 years old, and the Crown of Emperor Rudolf II, which was later to become the Austrian Imperial Crown, you can also see the only pieces of jewellery owned by Empress Elisabeth that are on public display.
And nowhere can you get closer to Sisi than in the Imperial Carriage Museum in Schönbrunn: unique original objects such as her court dress with its impressive “wasp waist”, her saddle and her wedding coach are just some of the outstanding exhibits. A particular highlight is the “mystery dress” from the young empress’s trousseau.
