Viennese cuisine is world-famous and enjoys a good international reputation. Traditionally, Vienna's culture of enjoyment is to be found in the down-to-earth inn (the Viennese beisl).

Viennese cuisine is the only type of cooking in the world to be named after a city.

Yet top-flight dining also makes reference to Viennese cuisine, modernizing and perfecting it to the very highest level. Popular restaurants such as the Apron bear witness to this. These have award-winning cuisine honored by the Michelin Guide. Or the unconventional cuisine at Pramerl & The Wolf, which looks like an inconspicuous beisl from the outside. These restaurants have first-class cuisine awarded by the Michelin Guide.

As a world city, Vienna also offers international cuisine of the highest standard, from Italian to Japanese. Also awarded with one Michelin star each is the exciting, contemporary cuisine at the Aend, the Mediterranean-inspired dishes at the restaurant Edvard in the Hotel Anantara, and the purely vegetarian cuisine at Tian.

With Restaurant Amador, Austria also has a three-star restaurant. In a class of their own are the Steirereck in the Stadtpark, the Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant in Palais Coburg, the restaurant Konstantin Filippou as well as Mraz & Sohn; all four have been awarded two stars each by the Michelin Guide. The Steirereck even ranks 18th on the list of the "World's 50 Best Restaurants". Reinterpretations of old recipes and almost forgotten ingredients of Austrian cuisine make the dishes at the Steirereck something special.
