Culture Workout 2020

In Vienna, the cultural program can quickly become a marathon. But that's not a bad thing, is it? Because the city has one cultural institution after another and faced with so many sights you won't even notice you're also doing something good for your health at the same time. Let's get going with the best cultural workouts that the city has to offer.

Climbing the Steffl's 343 steps

It is indisputably one of the most important symbols of the Austrian capital: St. Stephen's Cathedral. It also makes for an excellent fitness studio because the south tower gets visitors' pulses racing with its 343 steps. No less breathtaking is the view from the tower room of the "Steffl". Because the exertion is very quickly forgotten when faced with the unique panorama in the heart of Vienna.

In harmony with art and body

Namaste from the most magnificent place that sweat has ever flowed in Vienna. The Albertina opens its doors on one Saturday each month to the morning Vinyasa Flow Yoga Class, which beginners and advanced practitioners are welcome to attend. In the impressive atmosphere of the Hall of the Muses, the body gains tension of its own accord. With the subsequent museum visit, which is included in the price, the morning transitions to an inspiring second round.

This training is the hit – Workout à la Beethoven

A healthy mind in a healthy body – this is promised by the new Beethoven workout by and with Konstantin. Which is a great deal of fun, especially in Beethoven year 2020. Together with Konstantin, you'll train for an hour in the footsteps of the great musical genius – cultural history included. The session starts right outside Hotel Beethoven, dates are available on request.

Alles Walzer! (Let the waltz begin!)

Vienna is known for its unique balls, which are celebrated here in the most magnificent halls in festive style. The ball season also provides the ideal opportunity to get rusty legs moving again and to loosen stiff hips. The Vienna Dance Schools offer a wide range of courses that are guaranteed to stop you tripping over your own feet the next time you go to a ball. So, get those dancing shoes on and hit the dancefloor!

Glamor and Gloriette

"Your body is your temple", as an old saying goes. The Gloriette in Schönbrunn Palace park is reminiscent of a temple, with its elaborate pillars and arches. If you'd literally like to bring body and temple together, then a walk to the culturally and historically unique structure is a good place to start. Even fitness enthusiasts will get nice and warm on the climb to the Gloriette – and the feeling continues with the view from the top. Because the outstanding sight of the imperial Schönbrunn Palace also gets the heart beating faster. And a subsequent visit to the Gasthaus Tirolergarten (Tyrolean Garden Inn) at Schönbrunn Zoo is a great way to top up your energy reserves again.

Step by step up the Baumgartner Höhe

Another architectural jewel can be found on a slope of the Vienna Woods in Penzing: the Church of St. Leopold (designed by Otto Wagner). The Art Nouveau church designed by Otto Wagner with its characteristic dome is not only an incomparable total work of art that should not be missed but also an impressive destination that draws visitors to go on a long walk on the Baumgartner Höhe. Sore muscles included.
