Beethoven a composé sa 2e symphonie, des morceaux au piano et des sonates pour violon dans cette maison. En 1802, il écrivit une lettre à son frère (qu'il n'envoya jamais) dans laquelle il exprimait ses doutes concernant l'aggravation de sa surdité. On appelle cette lettre le « Testament de Heiligenstadt ». Le Musée Beethoven est dédié aux 35 ans du maître viennois - le grand centre Beethoven de Vienne.
