ウィーンで訪ねるフランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝ゆかりの地
かつて皇帝家のプライベートな庭園であった王宮庭園では、フランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝と間近に対面できます。ウィーン旧市街の一角にある庭園には、皇帝の銅像が 佇んでいます。服装は皇帝に典型的なアウトフィット、つまり軍服姿です。以前この記念像は兵舎に置かれていましたが、1957年からリング通り沿いの庭園 に移されたのです。68年にわたってハプスブルク王朝を統治した皇帝の執務室は、ここから遠くありません。フランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝の冬の居城であったホーフブルク王宮では、皇帝の住居見学コースが一般公開されています。皇帝の執務室、エリザベート皇妃の居間と寝室、数多くのサロン、かつての浴室などをご覧ください。同じホーフブルク王宮にある宮廷宝物館には、数多くの貴重な展示品の中に、皇帝ルドルフII世の冠、オーストリア帝国の帝冠なども見られます。
夏の期間、皇帝は執務を終わるとシェーンブルン宮殿に帰りました。皇帝は1830年ここで生まれ、晩年の歳月を過ごし、ここで1916年に世を去りました。自然を愛した皇帝は、広々としたシェーンブルン庭園を好んで散歩しました。既に少年時代、フランツ・ヨーゼフは弟たちと庭園で過ごし、オベリスクの泉の背後にあるプールで水泳を習ったと伝えられます。もちろん動物園に もフランツ・ヨーゼフ少年は繰り返し出かけました。シェーンブルン宮殿には1441の部屋があり、そのうち45が見学コースとして公開されています。フラ ンツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝の執務室と住居部分は、質素で控え目な内装です。これと対照的に大広間や客室は豪華に内装されています。シェーンブルンの中央門横手に ある皇帝家のヴァーゲンブルク（馬車博物館）には、贅沢な皇帝のセレモニー用馬車から子供用の橇（ソリ）まで、宮廷で用いられていた様々の馬車が展示されています。
シェーンブルン宮殿の近くには、宮廷パビリオン・ヒーツィンクと 呼ばれる建築物があります。ユーゲントシュティール様式の要素で飾られた建物は本来、建築家オットー・ワーグナー設計による都市鉄道体系の駅のひとつで、 皇帝一家と宮廷の人々専用で、内部には皇帝の執務室まであります。しかし皇帝が専用の待合室を利用したのは２回だけでした。今では一般公開されています。 皇帝の日常生活に関心をお持ちの方は、宮廷家具博物館へお出かけください。他に類例の無いこの博物館には、ハプスブルク家宮廷の家具を中心に、５世紀間にわたる数千の家具が保管・展示されています。その中には、皇帝の旅行用玉座、ビロードを張った祈祷台などが含まれています。
更に軍事史博物館にも皇帝の面影が残されています。独自のフランツ・ヨーゼフ・ホールには、絵画のほか、皇帝時代の軍服が展示されています。ヴォティーフ教会は、若きフランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝に対する暗殺が未遂に終わったことを神に感謝するため建てられました。リング通りも、フランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝統治時代の大きな遺産のひとつです。皇帝は1857年の勅令によって、旧市街を囲む城壁の撤去と環状大通り建設、大通りに並ぶ数々の歴史的建築への道を拓いたのです。
「シェーンブルンの老城主」と呼ばれた皇帝の棺は、ハプスブルク家の墓所であるカプツィーナー墓所に 安置されています。ここには歴代皇帝や親族の棺が納められています。旧市街のカプツィーナー教会には1633年以降、12人の皇帝、19人の皇妃と王妃そ の他の親族が眠っています。フランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝は、ここに納棺された最後の皇帝です。エリザベート皇妃とルドルフ皇太子の棺も、ここに納められていま す。
