S'étendant sur plus de deux kilomètres carré, le grand Cimetière central abrite la plus grande concentration au monde de monuments aux morts. Parmi les personnes enterrées ici, on trouve notamment Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss et Johannes Brahms.
