Abritant la plus grande collection au monde de tableaux de Bruegel, le Musée des Beaux-Arts compte parmi les établissements les plus importants de son style.
Gustav Klimt a créé ici, en 1891, les 40 « pendentifs du grand escalier » avec sa Compagnie des artistes. C'est-à-dire qu'il a aménagé toutes les surfaces encore libres s'étendant entre les colonnes et les voûtes dans l'extraordinaire escalier du musée.
Les trois peintres ont ici représenté les grandes époques de l'histoire de l'art avec leurs personnages symboliques. Un panneau d'information placé sur l'une des tables près de la balustrade de l'escalier vous informe sur les représentations et sur leur signification. Ce travail fut la dernière œuvre de taille de la Compagnie des artistes. Après la mort de son frère Ernst en 1892, Klimt met un terme à sa collaboration avec Matsch.

Three masterpieces of the Renaissance collection of the painting gallery, selected objects of the Kunstkammer, the Egyptian-Oriental collection and the collection of antiquities are available to the blind and visually impaired as castings for touching. Remarques
The museum is a place of encounter and sensory perception and offers plenty of opportunity to stimulate vistors and motivate them to interact with one another by looking at art together and then getting creative themselves.
