クリムトの壁画
ブリューゲルの世界的なコレクションでも知られる美術史博物館は、この種の美術館として屈指のものに数えられています。
ここにグスタフ･クリムトは1891年芸術家集団「キュンストラーコンパニー」と共に、40点の「隅板と柱の間の絵画」といわれる、階段ホールのアーチ部分や円柱の間の壁面空間を埋める絵画を制作しました。ここには3人の画家によって、美術史上の重要なエポックが象徴的人物で描かれています。
描写とその意味は階段ホールのバルコニーにあるテーブル型の説明版で詳しくご覧になれます。これはキュンストラーコンパニーの最後の有名な作品です。1892年に弟エルンストが亡くなった後、クリムトはマッチュと共同で完成させました。

Wheelchair users who visit the museum via Burgring 5 can purchase their tickets at the shop in the lobby.
