Dom Museum Wien
Il Dom Museum Wien ospita i tesori storici del Duomo di Santo Stefano di Vienna e dell’arcidiocesi di Vienna, ma anche importanti opere dell’Avanguardia austriaca afferenti alla collezione Otto Mauer. Uno dei pezzi più pregiati della collezione è il celeberrimo ritratto del duca Rodolfo IV d’Asburgo, soprannominato “il Fondatore” (1339-1365): è considerato il ritratto realistico più antico dell’Occidente e risale presumibilmente al periodo intorno al 1360. Il quadro è esposto permanentemente nel Dom Museum Wien. Rodolfo IV d’Asburgo è sepolto nelle catacombe del duomo di Santo Stefano, subito accanto al museo.
Il restauro in chiave moderna dell’edificio storico con vista sul Duomo di Santo Stefano consente un emozionante allestimento museale e un raffronto diretto tra antico e moderno. Oltre alla collezione permanente degli oggetti storici, ogni anno due mostre temporanee si confrontano con tematiche attuali e rilevanti inerenti al rapporto fra società, religione e arte.

The “Dom Museum Wien” app (free download) with detailed descriptions of the permanent exhibition can be used in talk-back or voice-over mode for blind and visually impaired people. The language selection also includes Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS). Portrait of Rudolf IV and a section of his precious grave cover have been turned into relief presentations with aid of computers and make ideal touching objects. Accompanying booklets “Simply explained”, designed in large print, are available for free. Inclusive art education programs are aimed at people with different biographical backgrounds and combine art experience with creative activity in the cathedral studio. The workshop series “So Close to the Center” was developed in cooperation with day centers that care for people with dementia. It evokes memories, discovers newness in art and combines both with the here and now.
