ImPulsTanz: Public Moves
ImPulsTanz, Europe's biggest festival for contemporary dance and performance, should once again have transformed Vienna into a summit or dance enthusiasts from around the world. In the end, everything turned out differently – but the dancing will still take place. And how!
Public Moves is all about taster workshops that are held free of charge in public spaces from July 9 to August 30, 2020. All ages and levels are welcome: beginners, professionals, children, and the young at heart. Several times daily and in all weathers, 90 teachers give insights into different dance styles – from ballet and bodywork via jazz and hip-hop to voguing and yoga.
To guarantee enough distance between the dancers, 16 square meters of dance space per person will be marked out. If you're interested in taking part, please register in advance online or by phone (tel. (+43 1) 523 55 58-19 daily between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm).
296 workshops for everyone
Physical distancing plays a big role, especially in dance. Consequently, the teachers at Public Moves also integrate this into their classes: for example, Georg Blaschke improvises with imaginary partners, Simon Mayer requires Social(dis)Dancing, Cornelia Scheuer looks in her all-abilities
workshop for new forms of intensive encounter without contact, and Doris Uhlich exudes energy at a distance together with DJ Boris Kopeinig.
Joe Alegado, who hasn't missed a single event since the founding of ImPulsTanz in 1984, gives freedom of movement, Florentina Holzinger invites you to a super-tough workout, Koffi Kôkô and Karine LaBel enchant with dances from Africa and Haiti, Nina Kripas and Storm bring their hip-hop moves, Fabiana Pastorini dances for health, and Vera Rosner choreographs a wheelchair ballet.
New to discover: Marta Navaridas presents the beauty of the step, sofa-surfers singer Mani Obeya reveals his tap dance talent, the former Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch dancer Breanna O'Mara brings the club to the improvisation class, Amanda Piña and Cristina Sandino
dance for the climate, Katharina Senk combines contemporary dance with martial arts, Akemi Takeya cries from the depths of her soul, and Elizabeth Ward dances ballet to techno music.
Performance tip: Liquid Loft
