Georg Friedrich Haas: 11,000 Strings for 50 microtonally tuned pianos and chamber orchestra (2020)

With the project “11,000 Strings,” the Great Hall itself becomes an instrument. In his composition for 50 pianos, Georg Friedrich Haas creates a radically new listening space that deliberately moves beyond traditional concert formats. The audience sits in the center of the hall, surrounded by 50 pianos arranged in a ring around the space. Sound does not emanate from the front, but moves, layers, circles, condenses, and dissolves again. The listeners find themselves in the middle of the sound box of a massive instrument made up of 11,000 strings.
