About the Event
“Sounding the Archive” – Historical Sources as a Starting Point for New Soundscapes
Featuring The Klezmatics, Lea Kalisch & Der Šenster Gob, Black Rooster Kapelye, Anna Lowenstein, and other international guests, the KlezMORE Festival Vienna invites you to its 23rd edition from November 7 to 15, 2026. Under the title “Sounding the Archive,” the festival explores how historical songs, texts, and musical collections can live on today – not as museum artifacts, but as a starting point for contemporary artistic practice.

For over 20 years, the festival has combined the culture of remembrance with a vibrant exploration of Jewish music, creating spaces for engaging with Jewish history, the present, and the future. The 2026 edition focuses on archives as places of remembrance and, at the same time, as starting points for new artistic processes. Against the backdrop of cultural traditions interrupted by the Shoah, the invited artists will demonstrate how historical sources can be carried forward and translated into contemporary musical contexts.
In 2026, the festival will once again expand its reach beyond Vienna, performing once more at the former synagogues in St. Pölten and Kobersdorf, among other venues.
