Important information for airport travelers

During the extended closure of a main section of the S-Bahn line through Vienna, trains will not stop at the stations Rennweg and the central hub Wien Mitte/Landstraße. This will result in changes to the usual train connections from Vienna Airport to the city center, in particular to the airport express train City Airport Train (CAT) and the S7 airport S-Bahn/REX 7 line.

CAT by bus: airport transfer to Wien Mitte

From August 24, 2026, to October 31, 2027, the City Airport Train will operate a replacement service using comfortable premium buses between Vienna Airport and the Wien Mitte/Landstraße station, running at more frequent intervals. Up to five buses per hour will run in each direction. The trips takes 21 minutes. This will provide a fast, direct connection between the airport and the city-center hub Wien Mitte/Landstraße (offering connections to subway lines U3 and U4).

  • The CAT bus stop at the Wien Mitte The Mall transit hub is located at Marxergasse 1b.
  • The CAT City Check-In at Wien Mitte/Landstraße station cannot be used during this period.

CAT by bus operating hours

  • Every 15 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. from Wien Mitte and from 6:10 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. from the airport.
  • Starting at 7:00 a.m., every 12 minutes (5 times per hour) until 7:00 p.m.
  • Starting at 7:00 p.m., every 15 minutes again until midnight.

Further information on the CAT by bus is available in the article on airport connections or at www.cityairporttrain.com.

Regional Express (REX 7) and S-Bahn line S7

The REX 7 Regional Express runs from Vienna Airport to Wien Hauptbahnhof in around 20 minutes. The station is well connected to the public transport network (connections to subway line U1, streetcar and bus lines).

The trains on the S7 airport S-Bahn line run from Vienna Airport on a shortened route to St. Marx station, which is outside the city center. There are transfer options to streetcar lines 18 (towards Hauptbahnhof) and 71 (towards the city center/Karlsplatz). It is also possible to continue by bus 74A into the city center to Landstraße station (connections to subway lines U3 & U4). The nearest subway station (U3) is around a 10-minute walk from the St. Marx stop.

Further information on tickets and timetables is available on the airport connections pages, at www.oebb.at, and in the Wiener Linien route planner.

Long-distance trains: ÖBB Railjet and Intercity-Express

The Railjet and Intercity trains operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) run twice an hour, providing nonstop service from Vienna International Airport to Vienna Central Station (with a connection to the U1 subway line) in about 15 minutes, or to Vienna Meidling Station (with a connection to the U6 subway line) in just under half an hour.

Further information can be found on the airport connections pages or on the website of the Austrian Federal Railways.
