City Airport Train (CAT): Bus Replacement Service

Transfer by premium buses from August 24, 2026

From August 2026 to October 31, 2027, it will not be possible to travel into Vienna’s city center on the CAT due to extensive modernization work. The City Airport Train will operate a replacement service using comfortable premium buses between Vienna Airport and the Wien Mitte/Landstraße station, running at more frequent intervals. Up to five buses per hour will run in each direction. This will provide a fast, direct connection between the airport and the city-center hub Wien Mitte/Landstraße (offering connections to subway lines U3 and U4).

  • Up to five buses run per hour, each with 57 seats and a travel time of 21 minutes.
  • The CAT by bus continues to offer a reliable airport shuttle to and from Wien Mitte—every 12 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and every 15 minutes during other operating hours.
  • The CAT bus stop at the Wien Mitte The Mall transportation hub is located at Marxergasse 1b.
  • At the airport, the buses stop at the bus stops directly in front of Arrivals Terminal 3.
  • Luggage can be easily transported on the CAT buses.
  • The CAT City Check-In service for luggage is currently suspended. Check-in for your flight and boarding pass printing for select airlines are still available in the CAT lobby.

Further information is available under “Important information for airport travelers from August 2026.”

The CAT by bus thus remain the fastest connection from the airport to downtown Vienna and run daily between the city center (Wien Mitte/Landstraße station) and the airport from the early morning hours until around midnight. The Wien Mitte/Landstraße station is about a 15-minute walk from the city center and can be reached via subway lines U3 and U4, tram line 0, bus line 74, and various rapid transit trains.

Operating Hours

  • Every 15 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. from Wien Mitte and from 6:10 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. from the airport.
  • Starting at 7:00 a.m., every 12 minutes (5 times per hour) until 7:00 p.m.
  • Starting at 7:00 p.m., every 15 minutes again until midnight.
  • Last bus departs from Wien Mitte at 11:15 p.m. and from the airport at 11:37 p.m.
