ImPulsTanz

Hopes are high for a halfway normal summer. ImPulsTanz has knuckled down and presents a considerable performance program as well as its workshop and research projects.

Performances of every kind

On Vienna's many stages and in the city's museums, ImPulsTanz 2021 will sparkle with its unique range of activities: highlights of dance history, revivals and premieres can be seen, from large stage shows to intimate formats, from icons to newcomers.

Need a couple of examples? The international star choreographer Meg Stuart is a guest at the freshly renovated Volkstheater with no fewer than two pieces: she brings both her latest work CASCADE and also VIOLET, which was last seen in Vienna ten years ago. Alain Platel celebrates the premiere of a new version of his piece Gardenia.

Topical like never before: Maguy Marin's Umwelt. - An uncompromising, bold, choreographic reflection on power, religion, love, and the threat to our planet.

ImPulsTanz Workshops 2021

Dance venue museum

The Leopold Museum provides a floor for dance and performance for the entire festival period. On show here: the revival of unsichtbarst2 by the Swiss choreographer Anna Huber. Invited by the European network Life Long Burning, eight artists and collectives will meet in Vienna and create an exciting space between live dance and archive at the Leopold Museum, which will be opened to the public on two evenings under the title On the Road to Nowhere ... .

On the other side of the MuseumsQuartier, in the mumok – Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna, Tamara Alegre shows FIEBRE, her feminist answer to Viennese Actionism. Astrit Ismaili presents the "pop opera" MISS and Mathias Ringgenberg aka PRICE leads Pop Art into the 21st century with Melodies are so far my best friend.

Let's dance

In the spacious studios of the Arsenal, over 180 workshops and research projects motivate both beginners and professionals to join in. Archie Burnett leads participants into the world of voguing, Ian Kaler and Stéphane Peeps Moun invite you to research together for two weeks, Daybee Dorzile organizes a Funktastic Jam children from 11 years, and Fabiana Pastorini dances with people over 60 years of age for better health. Other courses are offered by, among others, Meg Stuart and Moriah Evans, Jennifer Lacey, ATLAS coach Guy Cools, Anne Juren and Frédéric Gies.

Public Moves

As part of the Viennese summer of culture, the extremely popular workshop series Public Moves will be held again from July 8 to August 15, 2021. Every day, people of all levels and ages can participate in taster courses free of charge – in the colonnaded courtyard in Vienna City Hall, on Danube Island, and on the Kaiserwiese meadow in the Prater.
