Apart from the many Christmas markets offering classic handicrafts, Vienna also has a few design markets where you can buy original and individual creations. One of these design Christmas markets takes place in Vienna’s Urania at the end of November. At the WeihnachtsQuartier, around 100 selected labels, small producers and designers showcase a wide variety of creative ideas for every aspect of life on three levels, ranging from glass and ceramic furnishing accessories to natural cosmetics and delicacies to fashion and jewelry. The rooftop terrace of the Urania offers an unforgettable view of the city all lit up for Christmas.

The Cream Vienna design market invites you to the atmospheric halls of the Reaktor during the first weekend of December. Visitors can buy contemporary handmade items, while the producers themselves explain their passion and what makes their products so special. Artworks can be bought here too. Visitors can also sample a wide selection of characterful and exciting drinks and wines. Creative Austrian chefs provide the perfect culinary delights in this special ambience.

Edelstoff is a Christmas market for young design at the Marx Halle. The design market offers gifts for her, him, and children – entirely in line with the motto: a Christmas market for all gifts. Slow fashion, jewelry, kids design, cosmetics, delicatessen, and art by 170 designers and small manufactories from Austria and the neighboring countries await visitors. Behind every sales table there are new gift surprises, entirely devoid of kitsch and mass-produced goods. In the 1,000 m² street food area of the Edelstoff design market, there's time to chill.

Another design Christmas market will make its debut this year at the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts. At the X-MAK Winter Garden, the atmospheric garden of the MAK will be transformed into a unique design Christmas market on two weekends in December, featuring a carefully curated selection of Austrian designers and artists. And there will of course be fantastic food and drink offerings.

Here’s a tip from us: A visit to the X-MAK Winter Garden pairs perfectly with the “Bicycle & Lobster. Sparkling Tree Decorations from Gablonz" at the MAK exhibition. The wonderful designs for Christmas ornaments, from spiders to airplanes, will enchant even the toughest Grinch.

A design Christmas market will also be held this year in the new Francis business district in the 9th district, not far from the Servitenviertel. The focus will be on design, culinary offerings and a neighbourhood vibe. The festive concept store in the atrium will offer design and lifestyle products such as fashion, stationery, accessories, natural cosmetics and home decor from local makers. The food and drink stalls are located outdoors on the plaza of the Francis business quarter.

A design Christmas market will also be taking place in the Nordbahnviertel. Visitors can browse in a relaxed atmosphere and find small yet special gifts. Here you will find creative local craftsmanship, from ceramics and jewellery
