Playgrounds in Vienna
A playground in the style of the Wild West can be found on the Jesuitenwiese meadow in the Prater. Adventurers climb the castle, speed downhill on a 30 meter-long slide and whiz over the meadow on the seats of a cable car. A nine meter-high giant pendulum swing fascinates children and adults. In winter, a snow canon transforms the hill into a toboggan run.
On Robinson Island, a natural adventure playground in the 19th district, children experience nature playfully and with lots of fun. Supervised by educators from Kinderfreunde Vienna, imaginative children build huts, go on treasure hunts, solve riddle rallies, explore the biotope and grill sausages over the campfire.
The Forest Playground on Cobenzl thrills children not only with balancing stations, an organ that plays the sounds of the forest, a climbing tower and wooden seesaws, but also with its fantastic view of Vienna.
At 15,000 m², the Water Tower water playground is the largest of its kind in Europe. It offers waterfalls, streams, ponds, bridges and extensive lawns. A slide from the top of the six meter-high water tower provides as much delight as the large mud zone with its piles of sand.
On the 5,000 m2 Danube Island water playground, children can splash to their heart's content, experiment with water, cross the pond on a cable ferry or suspension bridge, and imitate the traffic on the Danube with a shipping lock.
The 1,800 m2 themed playground 'Zug und Bahn' in the vicinity of the Central Cemetery has been designed as a mini train station with track. At the center of the playground are the tracks in the form of a curved path; there are also sandpits, climbing equipment and a carousel.
In the 100-hectare Kurpark Oberlaa spa park next to Therme Wien, Vienna's thermal baths, the animals in the petting zoo are a magical attraction for the little ones, as are a bouncy castle and tree houses as parts of two playgrounds and an extensive climbing garden.
Sightseeing break at the playground
After a visit to a museum or when on a sightseeing tour, a playground is the ideal for young and old to get an energy boost. Fresh air and space to frolic around in can also be found in Vienna in the city center.
The MuseumsQuartier attracts with its museums – from the ZOOM Children's Museum to the Leopold Museum. Afterwards, it's time to chill out or clamber about on the colorful MQ outdoor furniture in the huge courtyard.
At the Belvedere Palace Park, there's a playground for small children, with a lawn and sand pit. And in the huge park surrounding Schönbrunn Palace, the knot garden, maze and Labyrinthikon playground (with 14 stations!) are a popular family destination.
The extensive playground in the Stadtpark offers not only a climbing frame, slides, swings and a sand pit but also a skate park and a football pitch. The peaceful ambience of the lush greenery as well as numerous play zones including a wet sand area make the playground in City Hall Park a magnet for children.
At Liechtensteinpark, children tumble about on a large playground with many different types of play equipment and a volleyball court. And in the Augarten, not only can visitors marvel at the porcelain museum but playgrounds, picnic meadows and a free open-aid pool for children thrill kids of every age!
