Hofmusikkapelle at Hofburg Chapel
In the chapel, the oldest part of the castle, the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle performs music by the great masters, including Claudio Monteverdi, Antonio Salieri, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the brothers Joseph and Michael Haydn, and - himself a former member of the Court Boys Choir - Franz Schubert. Works by Anton Bruckner, a prominent organist here in the Hofburg Chapel, are also frequently featured on the program.

Wiener Hofmusikkapelle, W.A. Mozart - Sanctus Benedictus - Missa solemnis, C-Dur, KV 337, 7.2.2021
The Hofmusikkapelle ensemble performs with the organist in the gallery at the back, near the rear wall of the Hofburg Chapel. Since a Holy Mass is being celebrated, the seats for the worshippers and listeners are oriented toward the high altar rather than toward the musicians. The closing motet is sung by the Vienna Boys Choir or the Vienna Girls Choir, though they sing downstairs in front of the high altar.
Vienna Boys Choir and Vienna Girls Choir
Let yourself be enchanted by the bell-like voices of the young singers. Since the fall of 2026, the Vienna Girls Choir has been taking turns with the four choirs of the Vienna Boys Choir to perform at the Sunday Masses in the Hofburg Chapel. In doing so, they are continuing a tradition that dates back more than 525 years. They are accompanied by Vienna’s finest musicians - from the ranks of the Vienna Philharmonic - and by the Men’s Choir of the Vienna State Opera.
